Giving Thanks

Being thankful goes beyond a Holiday, it's a lifestyle (at least for me it is). As 2012 is going out gracefully, I have found many many reasons to be thankful. As I reflect over the past few months of my life-I am becoming more and more thankful for my life. The focus has shifted from looking at what I don't have to being grateful for what I DO HAVE!

So from this reflection, stems this wonderful list of things I am thankful for! Number one on the list is my life!! A few instances this year, my life literally could have been gone-but mercy said NO and God allowed me to continue living. Number two: Thankful for the health of my family, aside from a few colds and sinus infections-no major diseases or illnesses have attacked my beautiful family this year. Number three: Kay Candles-so thankful that I finally took a step of faith and started my own business!! right at home, doing what I love and getting paid for it. God is good! and the list could go on and on, but you'd probably stop reading right about now........

Still with me? I have so much to be thankful for and so do you. Got a nice car (needs new brakes) but at least I have transportation. Got a beautiful home (needs new tile in the kitchen) but at least I have a home. What am I sayin? Focus on the good of what you got and not the negative. Let me know what you are thankful for this year and while your'e on the net, stop by and see me at www.facebook.com/KayCandles.

Blesssings!

Hurricane Sandy

Historic. Powerful. Unforgettable.
It's hard to believe that once again-the week of Halloween-a massive storm has hit the East Coast. As the warnings began to come, my family and I were scurrying to make preparations for the Big hit! Remembering last year's storm, should have been a lesson for all of us. I wasn't about to be unprepared this time. So with tons of water, snacks and candles-we hunkered down and waited for Sandy to hit.
The wait was soooooo long, but as her massive winds rolled in-she gave fair warning that she was coming to do some damage. Thankful our property was spared. We did lose power a few times-but we had plenty of KayCandles!

So thankful that all of my family here and all over the East Coast was safe. My prayers go out to all of those who weren't as fortunate. Sandy has indeed left her mark on our state and the recovery will be long-so I have plenty to pray for.  Let's lend a hand to anyone we can during this difficult time.
Blessings,
Kay

Write On!

With the recent passing of two good people in my life, I've had some time to reflect.
After realizing how 'short' life really can be, I decided to pull back a bit and focus back on my first love-Writing. It is my passion and what I love more than anything! So I took a stroll through some of my old journals and saw some stories that begged me to finish them:) I was inspired, so I created a seperate blog for JUST my writing. (Bemypen.blogspot.com) stop by and visit, I'd love to hear from ya.
I'm excited to post some new and old things that I pray will inspire, encourage and motivate the writer within us all! Take time today and reflect on how far you have come, how much you have grown-and what you have learned from life.  Be blessed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

One of my favorite holidays is Valentine's Day. A day where we Love, on purpose! As a mom and a wife, I am consistently showing love to my family on a day to day basis. I show it through the meals I make, the events I support, the loads of my time that I give and give and give! Yet on Valentine's Day-I like to show them specific acts of Love on purpose and I encourage you to do the same. Valentine's day isn't just for couples, but it's a day to show love to everyone that matters in your world. So don't be bitter, don't be angry over what you did or did not get. GIVE!

The joy in knowing that you made someone smile or made their day brighter is plenty reward. Think about how much Christ gives and gives to us, yet sometimes we don't give him anything in return! So let' s follow Christ's example this Valentine's Day and let's share the Love.

No money? no problem! Make a card, make a gift-what better way to show your heartfelt appreciation for someone than to take time and make someone something nice for them. If your not the crafty time, then cook something really tasty-who can resist a home cooked meal? No matter who you are or where you are, you have some love to share-so get moving and share some love.

Wives---love your husbands. Moms---love your kids and do it all ON PURPOSE!

'Happy Happy Valentine's Day World

love

The Hangover

Hey everyone, have you ever saw someone that was hungover from a wild night? or perhaps you have some memory of being hungover a time or two? Either way, it' s that awful feeling you have the next day after partying /drinking really hard the night before! Now some people enjoy hangovers (strange), but I never did. It was always a reminder of how dumb I was to do all that I was doing the night before. Yet I know that some take a hangover as a reminder of the 'good time' they had, just a few hours ago.

Now why am I saying all this? Well, now i'm certainly not drinking anymore (thank God) and I'm not having awful hangovers the next morning. But what I am having these days, are AWESOME encounters with God, that leave me feeling a bit, well, hungover. I mean take yesterday for instance, I went to church and it was far from 'church as usual'. The presence of God just overtook us all and people began to praise and lift up God with all their heart and strength. As I enjoyed the Lord, I also encouraged some of my brothers and sisters to do the same.

It became a family affair as we all joined together to shout, sing, dance and just bask in God's presence until we couldn't take anymore!! It was awesome. As God began to speak and use different ones in different ways, I just soaked it all up and when it finally came to an end-I was exhausted-but in a good way. Like I just sat back and took a deep breath and reflected on what a great time I just had with God and my family.

So this morning when I woke up.......you guessed it, I was feeling a little 'hungover'. Not sick to my stomach or my head pounding every second, but I just had that sense of contentment as I thought on how hard I had partied with Christ the day before! Yes it was fun, it was amazing, it was breathtaking and realistically-I am simply tired. Our spirit can certainly out last our physical bodies! So maybe 'hangover' isn't the word i'm looking for, but hopefully you get my point and I got your attention at least. LOL.

God was amazing yesterday and He still is today. That's what I love about Him, he just keeps on being great and He doesn't change. I wish you all could have been there with me yesterday, but I'm sure you have had your own encounters with God on yesterday. If you did, I'd like to hear about it.
So be strong, be blessed and go through this week with JOY and LOVE.

Time for LUNCH!

I have to admit that one of my favorite times of the day is lunch time. Even saying the word LUNCH gets me excited. lol. Why? I don't know. Perhaps it's because it's so long after eating breakfast or maybe because it ties me over until dinner time. Regardless of the reason, I love it! I'm always looking for good, tasty, hit the spot foods to have for lunch!

Being a stay at home mom, I have to prepare lunch for more than just myself, so I seek to make 'lunch' time a joyous time for everyone in my family. This calls for creativity, let's face it, no one wants to eat the SAME thing everday (no matter how good it is). So I do surf the web for exotic fruits and such but when that fails, I get inspirations right from my local grocery store. I don't know where you shop, but my circular has recipe ideas inside and they even have a monthly magazine that's filled with yummy recipes and coupons!!

So today, try something different for lunch, it's basically a 'break' in the day-so why not enjoy what you eat. With some simple planning and a trip to the grocery store, you can wow your family with some amazing treats for lunch (healthy ones included). I'll be sharing some tips on packing lunches for 'picky eaters' (soon)-take on the challenge and give your kids a reason to look forward to eating lunch.

Lunch tips for ALL: Take two of your favorite foods and combine them together for lunch. (don't be afraid) you won't know what it tastes like till you try it. For example, I love turkey and recently i've fallen for avocados. (never had them together). Today I added some avocado slices to my turkey sandwich and BAM! I was smitten. LOL. Add on some dried cranberries, lettuce and bacon and you've got yourself something good to eat.

Tip #2: If you like sandwiches for lunch, try a new type of bread. The grocery aisle is full of variety! (try pitas-they work great for tuna or chicken salad sandwiches)
Tip #3: If your watching those carbs, or you hate bread-try tortilla wraps. You can get anything from whole wheat to sun dried tomato flavored. Or you can use some fresh lettuce as your bread! the sky is the limit.
Tip #4: Try something new! a new spread, a new sauce, a new seasoning on your meats, try something you would NEVER usually eat, you just might like it.

Good eating to all of you and blessings to your times of lunch today and forever!

Let's EAT!

Check this out! In efforts to eat a little better this year, my hubby made a NO SALT added pasta dish!

In my house, we love pasta and we're always looking for a new and exciting way to eat it. Pasta is always a quick delicious meal to make when you have a hungry family to feed. I love it because it's so many varieties and can be cooked so many different ways!

So if you like what you see, i'll share this recipe with you-whether you've never tried pasta before or your simply looking for a new twist, you'll definitely want to try this! The dish is named: Cajun Chicken Pasta. I will be sharing more recipes with you all as time goes on, but for now-snack on this comforting dish and let me know how it turns out.

WARNING: THIS RECIPE IS NOT FOR MOMS, WHO LOVE TO SPEND HOURS COOKING DINNER!

Want to try this recipe? leave a comment and let me know.......Happy cooking and blessings.

The Moment

A day or so ago, it finally snowed! I was so excited, when I peeped out my window around 10 pm and a soft white blanket of snow was covering my yard. I almost rushed outside to play, or make a snow angel (like I did as a child)-but I managed to restrain myself. LOL. So I just threw on a warm robe and stared outside the window, watching it fall so gracefully to the ground. Nothing mattered in that moment, but the snow-I smiled inside and outside.

By the end of the next evening, the snow was all washed away by rain. Everything had gone back to normal and the day to day grind was back! (Dirty dishes, making lunches, and checking my to-do list a thousand times over). When I finally got a chance to think back on that moment when I peeped outside and watched the snowfall-I was grateful. Grateful that I had seized that moment and enjoyed every minute of it.

Sometimes we get so busy in this thing called LIFE, that we forget to stop and take a moment-a moment to enjoy God and his creations! Yes, as much as we all hate shoveling, God MAKES IT SNOW! So for this New Year, I've resolved to not complain about the snow(as I do every single year!), but to enjoy it (as best I can) as a gift from God. Instead of focusing on all the negatives that come with snow (storms, shoveling and simply being up to your neck in it.LOL), my focus will be on the positives that come with snow: Making snow angels, sledding, making a snowman with my kids or simply enjoying a cup of hot chocolate while watching it fall from the sky!)

What do you like most about snow? I'd like to know.......leave a comment and be blessed!

Rainy Days!

It's pouring rain outside today and equipped with my rain boots, I'm out and about for the day. I'm excited to embrace the New Year, even with the new challenges and struggles that it may bring. I am encouraged to know that God is always with me, through the good and bad and I can make it with him beside me.

Although the rain outside makes me sleepy and can even make a day seem dreary, I've decided to take a new perspective. The rain is a symbol of God's love pouring out (literally) onto the earth. The plants and trees are all getting a fresh drink from Heaven's fountain and so am I! Imagine if every rain drop that hit the ground was an actual blessing that God sent you from Heaven.

I conclude that YOU(you reading this blog) are blessed, whether you realize it or not. Your blessed to be alive! Blessed to be able to read this blog! Blessed to be able see! Blessed to be you! Take a moment and count up all your blessings. Go ahead-I DARE you!

So what will you do with all those blessings??? I'd love to hear your plans so holla at your girl!

Be blessed and Loved always

THE START OF Something NEW

I love a good story, especially success stories! The best part of the story for me, is always the start. I like to know what people went through, overcame and had to conquer-to achieve success in their lives. What I love about the start, is that everyone has one! You have to start somewhere and at some point.

So I want this post to be my start for the New Year. I am trusting God for a successful and prosperous New Year for me and I want this blog to be a part of that New start. Now, I have much ground to cover, but here-i'm starting with my Gift to WRITE! I love to write and the word love is almost an understatement. Every since I could pick up a pencil, I've been writing.

This year I want to make my writing more public, so that I can challenge myself more and as well share my gift with the world. A good friend advised me to publish my goals, so that it would be out there and I would be forced to make good on what I set out to do! So I'm going to try and see if it works.

My goal for 2012 is....................you ready?..................................are you sure?................ok ok, no more suspense-I am FINALLY going to finish my first novel. (deep breathe) ok there it is world, hold me to it!!!
Be Back Soon
